And that it’s bigger than you – rise above her behaviour. Let me tell you a story about how it might play out, away from the platitudes of Facebook. Shortly before last Christmas I took my children shopping – we found some lovely presents and cards, we wrapped them together, we took them back to her house to make sure she had them for Christmas. I was moderately put out that there was no reciprocation, but I thought, well, you never know, something will come with them when to come to mine after Christmas for the “Christmas Holiday Time” with their father. Anyway, they didn’t turn up. I got a phone call saying they weren’t coming, they were breaching the court order. It turned out that as well as this she’d decided to make allegations about me to the police and social services to bolster her breach and, it also turned out, to apply to the court to cut their contact with me. Thus began 9 months of hell. I was investigated three times by two different police forces. More times than I can even begin to remember by four different social services team. By the time we got to the end of it, the police had said they’d no concerns, Social Services had said I was exemplary (indeed after one of my “contact sessions” – dread words – the Senior Manager for social services said that it was the finest she’d seen in 30 years) and that I and the children clearly loved each other and that they had absolutely no child protection concerns. But along the way there was a period when I only saw them for four hours in two months, in a Social Services office a 6 hour journey from home, during the working week. There were ten court hearings. During the course of which it finally became abundantly clear that the mother had lied and lied and lied again. As a consequence of which the court rebuked her and made an order of its own volition to restrain her from further action. This left me with a six figure legal bill. So the next time somebody says, oh rise above it, I’ll say that’s fine – you deal with the consequences, you pay the legal bill and somehow, most importantly, make recompense for the time the children lost with me. Until you’re willing to do that, frankly, keep your platitudes to yourself and live in lala-land.
